Championing Gender Equality and Positive Masculinity: CEMFLED in Action

At CEMFLED, our commitment to gender and social justice is not just a mandate—it is a core part of our identity and mission. We believe that true equality cannot be achieved without the active involvement of all members of society, including men and boys. For too long, gender equality has been viewed as a “women’s issue,” but we recognize that men must also be part of the solution—challenging patriarchy, modeling positive masculinity, and standing as allies in the fight against gender-based violence and discrimination.

This June, we proudly joined hands with like-minded partners and allies across the African continent to highlight and celebrate the crucial role of men in promoting gender justice. Through high-level dialogues, strategic partnerships, and inclusive platforms, we amplified voices calling for the dismantling of harmful gender norms and the reimagining of masculinity—one that uplifts, protects, and empowers all people, regardless of gender. These moments were not just symbolic—they were a bold reaffirmation of our shared commitment to building a more just, equitable, and inclusive society for generations to come.

Fathers for Equality Dialogue – June 13, 2025

CEMFLED participated in the “Fathers for Equality” Dialogue organized by the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development (Centre LSD). The event celebrated fathers and male allies who are championing gender equality and advancing feminist values in homes, communities, and workplaces.

Our Executive Director featured as a panelist, engaging in rich dialogue with faith leaders and male feminists. Together, they explored how men can lead in promoting healthy masculinity and play an active role in the movement for gender justice. The conversation emphasized the need for intentional, values-driven leadership at all levels of society.

Positive Masculinity as a Tool to End Gender-Based Violence – June 16, 2025

Just days later, on June 16, 2025, Dr. Komolafe took part in a high-level panel in Abuja, hosted by ActionAid Nigeria, with a focus on “Positive Masculinity as a Tool to End Gender-Based Violence.”

The panel explored how reshaping masculinity can serve as a transformative approach to preventing violence against women and girls across Africa. Dr. Komolafe highlighted faith-rooted and community-led strategies that empower men to unlearn harmful behaviors, support survivors, and build a culture of accountability and care.

Our Ongoing Work

In 2024, CEMFLED hosted Joan, a human trafficking survivor from Uganda, who is now working with other survivors to rebuild their lives and advocate for justice. Stories like Joan’s remind us why we do this work.

As an organization deeply passionate about gender and social justice, we will leave no stone unturned in our quest to challenge inequality, end gender-based violence, and create safe, inclusive spaces for all.

Together, with our partners, allies, and courageous voices like Joan’s, we are building a future where justice, dignity, and equality are not ideals—but realities.
